Epiphany: Freedom

“You said, we’re not free? What did you mean?”

“Isn’t it?”

“I still don’t get it…”

“You know… I once believe we have the capability and opportunity to live and exercise life according to our will…”

“Come again.. I’m sorry.”

“It’s fascinating that our stories are already written, and those who dare to overwrite some chapters ahead tend to go crazy..”

“That’s why you’re crazy, aren’t you?”

“Hmm kinda… crazy for you… tea?”

“It’s fine, thanks…

..I’m good. So as you are saying?”

“Are you sure you don’t want tea? Because any moment from now this conversation is dead otherwise..”

“Okay, I’ll have one… you..”

“See, I told you. The moment you took that cup of tea is the part where we acted upon the story of our own books — in my book, I asked you to accept that cup of tea. And in yours, you refused so…”

“But I accepted it… I didn’t refuse”

“Because we have changed the story, look at us now — we’re still going, and it’s literally making us something we’re not — a couple on a date.”

“Hmm. You’re indeed crazy”

“You know, I’ve always thought that we’re boxed in our heads trying to figure out the schema of its mazes.. two things: we have the freedom to wander around the maze, and secondly, we are lost.”

“I get you, it’s like we venture through some foreign rabbit holes..”

“Yes, and as we venture along with the uncertainty of the path we’ve chosen, we are governed by the system of the maze — there are certain rules we must follow in order to get through… therefore, we’re not free.”

“But it’s your actions that determine your deeds — we are the doer of the things we want to accomplish, aren’t we?

“We are, but we’re like robots programmed to follow a set of rules in order to live the life we want. We are promised that if we follow the rules of the maze there, it gives us freedom. That we’re finally breaking free — that we’d escape the maze.”

“But we already have freedom? We can do everything we want..”

“I once said to a friend, freedom is an illusion of the mind, if there’s freedom, thus it’s contrary to fact, aren’t you prompted to do something however it feels limited because you consider the latter consequences?”

“Yes… I guess so.”

“Then how can there be freedom if you are limited to your actions?”

“This tea is really good..”

“It is, it’s my favorite.”

“So what do you say now?”

“I don’t know… I just want to live my life according to my will and do everything that I haven’t, yet..”

“Interesting.. so what’s that thing that you haven’t tried?”

“To feel freedom — to die.”
